The PostgreSQL user group in Egypt
A home for Postgres people in Egypt.
Developers, DBAs, data engineers and students who work with PostgreSQL, or want to. We meet to share what we've learned, dig into how things really work, and help each other run better databases.

01
PgDay Egypt
A one-day conference of practical Postgres talks. The first one is planned for January 2027 in Cairo.
02
Meetups
Evening talks and online sessions on the problems people actually hit in production.
03
Recordings
Slides and recordings are shared afterwards, so what's learned in the room stays useful.
04
Free, always
Run by volunteers and paid for by sponsors. Nobody pays to attend.
01Why we exist
Plenty of teams in Egypt run on Postgres, but the people behind those databases rarely meet. What we learn ends up in private chats and post-mortems that never leave the company. PostgreSQL Egypt is a place to share what works, admit what didn't, and meet the people who've already solved your problem.

PgDay Egypt 2027
Our first PgDay: a full day of PostgreSQL talks in Cairo, given by people who use it every day. Free to attend.

03What we talk about
Practical talks. No vendor pitches.
Talks from people who run Postgres for real: what worked, what broke, and what they'd do differently.
- Performance
- Reading EXPLAIN ANALYZE, choosing the right index, and finding the one query that's eating your CPU.
- Running it in production
- Backups you've actually restored, replication and failover, major version upgrades, and keeping autovacuum happy.
- Building on it
- Schema design, JSONB, full-text search, and extensions from PostGIS to pgvector.
- Under the hood
- MVCC, WAL, the planner, and how Postgres is developed, including how to start contributing.

Come along
You don't need to be an expert or to know anyone. Show up, listen and ask questions.

Migrated a big database or untangled a lock pile-up? That's a talk. First-time speakers are welcome.
Propose a talkHost or sponsor
A room, coffee or a budget for recording talks makes a real difference to a volunteer-run group.
Get in touch
Talk Postgres between events.
Ask questions, share what you're working on, and hear about new events first.
